Fleming P. Bell owner of the Bell Residence was an African American man born on August 1867( unknown what day) in Buckingham County, Virginia as farm laborer.He then moved to Augusta County,Virginia as a young man, and worked for Leheigh Portland Cement Company at Fordwick for many years. He married Mrs. Eliza Hughes, and had two sons Harold Bell and James Bell and one daughter Tessie Johnson. Fleming Bell died July 1st 1942 at age 74 years,10 months, and his cause of death was from senile gangrene. His funeral was held at Bethel Methodist Church in Christians. He was then buried in the Jonesboro Union Church Cemetery.

Albert W. Shelton owner of the Shelton Residence was an African American man born in 1874 (unknown what month and day) in Augusta County, Virginia to Benjamin Shelton and Annie Carter . His occupation was a farm laborer. He had three sons the only known son is Alfonso Shelton. Albert Shelton died of cerebral-hemorrhage, on December 13, 1943, at age 63. He was buried in the Jonesboro Union Church Cemetery.

“ Described as once located off Rippetoe (VA 869), about a mile south of the Parkersburg Pike (State Hwy 254) at the eastern entrance to Buffalo Gap. Turn South on Hewitt Road (VA 703),take an almost immediate right on Scott Christian Road, Crossing the C and O Tracks, and continue about a mile to lane (VA 869), a right turn off Scott Christian Road. A short distance on this road will bring you to the site of the Jonesboro School House No. 20” (Nutt,p.240)
